A dream home isn't a dream if it's not in your dream location. Some people prefer a downtown condo, with nightlife nearby. Others prefer a gated community in the suburbs with strong schools. There are homes along riverfront property or zero-lot lines to choose from as well. Before you can find your dream home, you must know your dream location and community. Find an area that has your requirements: up and coming vs established, full of young families or retired couples or both, near good schools and parks or an easy commute to work. Think about what you want the entire home experience to be like before you commit to a home or offer. Once you've decided on what makes your dream neighborhood, think about what is driving you to purchase? New family? New job? Retirement? Job transfer? Just married or just divorced? Answering some simple and easy questions at the beginning of your search can eliminate hassle later. Know your square footage requirements, what you must have in a home and what you can't stand. Some people want to buy an existing home and others want a custom build. Even when working with a builder, know what elements make up a dream home.
